The second Sunday in July is Sea Sunday, July 14 this year, and in the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches we pray for seafarers and the Missions that help seafarers: the Mission to Seafarers, the Apostleship of the Sea and the International Sailors Society.
We would like to share one initiative with you that came out of “Thy Kingdom Come” – a global wave of prayer calling all Christians to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ.
The Rev. Canon Bob Elkin, Chaplain of the Thessalon Fire Department, is requesting prayers for the daughter of one of the firefighters. Maresa was in a bad car crash in southern Ontario and her parents, Ken and Renee, are down there with her in the hospital.

Congratulations to the Venerable Deborah Kraft who will be honoured by Thorneloe University and receive a Doctorate of Sacred Theology at Convocation this October.

Anyone who will be 13-24 years of age on June 30 is encouraged to register. This year’s theme pick up on the Lutheran and Anglican national youth project focusing on homelessness, as well as our own diocesan youth concern with teens and mental health. Of course, there will be all the fun, friendship, and faith-filled activities that make youth synod such a highlight in Algoma.

We are saddened to announce that we have been advised of the death of Allison Sheppard, wife of the late Rev. Elliott Sheppard who provided ministry in our diocese from 1981 till his retirement in 1996. He was Incumbent in Sundridge, Nipigon and Red Rock.

We thank God for the safe arrival of Bennett Aidan Armstrong, son of The Revs. Aidan and Sarah Armstrong and little brother to William, on May 29th, 2019 in Sudbury. Mom and baby are doing well. Bennett weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces.

We are saddened to announce that two of our Algoma families are mourning the loss of loved ones this week:
Mary Frances Gurr passed away peacefully in her 91st year on May 15th in England. Much loved mother of the Rev. Lynda Mee (Muskoka Deanery) and her brother Jeff. She was married to Dennis for almost 71 years and is a grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 9.
Please be advised that the Diocesan Synod Office will be closed from noon on Tuesday, May 7th, until Monday, May 13th for Early Ministry Conference and Synod 2019.
We will be open for Synod Registration the afternoon of May 8th.
Mr. James McIlroy, father of Robert (Rev. Diane Hilpert-McIlroy), died on Sunday, April 28, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family, in Palmerston at the age of 100 years.
The funeral was on May 1st at Palmerston Evangelical Missionary Church.

EASTER GREETINGS FROM ARCHBISHOP ANNE
Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce that Archdeacon Joan Locke (Temiskaming) has accepted her additional appointment as Acting Archdeacon of the Deanery of Muskoka commencing June 1st, 2019. This is a temporary 6-month appointment and Archdeacon Joan will remain Archdeacon of Temiskaming Deanery.
The family of Michelle Rollins have requested prayers for her in her struggle with kidney cancer. We ask that you uphold Michelle and her entire family in your prayers. We pray for wisdom and compassion for her medical team in Sudbury and Toronto that they may have the expertise required to aid in her care.

Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Dr. Patti Brace as Interim Incumbent at St. Mary’s, Nipigon, commencing August 1, 2019.
Patti will be ordained as a presbyter, God willing, at the opening service of Diocesan Synod on May 8th at St. Luke’s Cathedral.
