Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce that Peter Selvaraj will be licensed as a priest in the Diocese of Algoma during an Evening Prayer service at Church of the Redeemer, Rosseau, part of the Parish of St. Stephen, on Saturday, July 25, at 5:00 p.m.
Peter was formerly a Roman Catholic priest and was received into the Anglican Communion in July 2024. Over the past two years, he has undertaken a period of discernment, formation, and preparation for ordained ministry within the Diocese of Algoma.
“I am delighted to welcome Peter into our College of Clergy,” said Archbishop Anne. “He has embraced this season of formation with humility, faithfulness, and a deep desire to serve God’s people. It has been a joy to witness his journey, and I look forward to celebrating this important milestone with him.”
Throughout this time, Peter has faithfully led services of Morning Prayer in parishes across the Deanery of Muskoka while becoming a familiar and valued presence within the diocesan community. Following his licensing, he will begin presiding at the Holy Eucharist and looks forward to expanding his ministry throughout the Diocese of Algoma.
“The Anglican Church has been enriched by Peter’s gifts, his pastoral heart, and his willingness to answer God’s call in a new way,” Archbishop Anne said. “His journey reminds us that God continues to lead us into new places of ministry throughout our lives. I know Peter will be a blessing to the people of Algoma, and I ask you to hold him in your prayers as he begins this next chapter.”
The Ven. Kelly Baetz, Archdeacon of Muskoka, has witnessed Peter’s ministry firsthand. “Peter has been an active member of All Saints since early 2024,” said Archdeacon Baetz. “His ministry, particularly his preaching, has been warmly received by the congregation, and I know that many from All Saints, as well as across the deanery, will be sharing in his joy on July 25.”
The Diocese of Algoma invites all its members to pray for Peter as he prepares for his licensing and for the ministry that lies ahead.
