A Vital Gathering for Algoma’s Lay Readers
As Diocesan Warden of Lay Readers, Alison Weir knows how important it is for those in this ministry to have opportunities for renewal, connection, and encouragement. “Lay Readers are part of a vital network of spiritual leadership and service in Algoma,” she says. “Whether you are just beginning your journey or have served faithfully for many years, this ministry matters deeply to the life of our Church.”
Each year, Lay Readers from across the Diocese come together for the Annual Lay Readers’ Conference, a time to pause, learn, and grow in their vocation.

Why Attend?
The Lay Readers’ Conference is more than an event—it is an anchor for a ministry that is both traditional and adaptive. Lay Readers are licensed lay leaders who support public worship, preaching, and pastoral ministry in partnership with clergy. They also play a key role in Christian education and outreach.
“This conference is about equipping and encouraging Lay Readers for the important work they do in our parishes and communities,” says Weir. “It’s a chance to share experiences, learn from one another, and return home refreshed in faith.”
Register Today
Lay Readers are invited to register early to secure their place. As Alison Weir reflects, “This ministry is one of both tradition and transformation—grounded in the Church’s liturgical life and evolving to meet the needs of our communities today. The conference is an opportunity to celebrate and strengthen that call together.”
