A Spirit-Filled Gathering and a New Chaplain
ACW Annual 2025
The Anglican Church Women (ACW) of the Diocese of Algoma gathered in Sault Ste. Marie from May 27–29 for their 2025 Annual Conference. Hosted by the Deanery of Algoma, this year’s event took place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott on the St. Mary’s River waterfront and brought together women from across the Diocese for worship, fellowship, and renewal. The theme for this year’s gathering was taken from Luke 1:46: “My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.”
The Opening Eucharist was held on Tuesday evening at St. Luke’s Cathedral. The Rt. Rev. Michael Oulton presided, with the Very Rev. Dr. Jay Koyle assisting. The Diocese extends heartfelt thanks to Bishop Michael for his presence and leadership at this significant gathering. A reception followed the service, generously hosted by the Deanery of Algoma Board.
During the Annual, ACW President Emily Noble formally announced the appointment of the Rev. Susan Montague-Koyle as Diocesan ACW Chaplain. Rev. Susan currently serves as the Incumbent of Holy Trinity, Sault Ste. Marie, and brings to this new ministry a deep love of scripture, a pastoral heart, and a commitment to walking alongside others in faith. She was officially installed at the Closing Eucharist on Thursday, May 29.
In expressing appreciation for the outgoing chaplain, Noble said, “We are so grateful to Rev. Catherine Murkin for her wise and gentle leadership during her time as Chaplain. She has been a steady and loving presence, and we thank her sincerely for the many ways she has supported ACW members across the Diocese.”
Archbishop Anne Germond offered her own words of gratitude and encouragement:
“I give heartfelt thanks to the Rev. Catherine Murkin for her dedicated and grace-filled ministry as Diocesan ACW Chaplain. She has offered faithful companionship and spiritual leadership to women across Algoma, and her presence will be missed in this role.
As we give thanks for all that has been, we also look with joy to what lies ahead. I offer prayers and best wishes to the Rev. Susan Montague-Koyle as she takes up this new ministry of accompaniment and encouragement. May her leadership be a blessing to the ACW and to the entire Diocesan family.”
