A Joyful Welcome

Rev. Catherine Hazlitt Appointed as Incumbent of Temiskaming Tri-Parish

Sunday, June 28, 2026 marked a joyful milestone for the congregations of St. John’s, North Bay, St. Mary’s, Powassan, and Holy Trinity, Temiscaming, as Archbishop Anne Germond announced the appointment of the Rev. Catherine Hazlitt as the new incumbent of the tri-parish. Rev. Catherine will begin her new ministry on September 1, 2026.

The announcement was shared during worship on the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, with Archbishop Anne reflecting on this season of growth in the Church:

“As we journey together through the green and growing season after Pentecost, we are reminded that God is continually at work among us, nurturing faith, renewing hope, and bringing forth new life in our communities.”

Currently serving as incumbent of the Island Parishes of Manitoulin, Rev. Catherine has faithfully ministered in Algoma since being appointed lay incumbent in 2022 before her ordination as deacon in 2023 and priest in 2024. A graduate of Wycliffe College with a Master of Divinity, she also brings experience as a registered nurse and a lifelong commitment to pastoral ministry.

Archbishop Anne noted Rev. Catherine’s love for small and medium-sized congregations, her commitment to faithful Anglican worship, and her collaborative approach to ministry. Recently appointed to the Diocese of Algoma’s Evangelism Committee, she is widely appreciated for her gifts in preaching, pastoral care, and communication.

Following the announcement, members of the three congregations gathered to welcome Rev. Catherine and celebrate this new chapter in the life of the parish. The day was filled with joy, fellowship, and anticipation as clergy and parishioners came together to give thanks for God’s guidance and to look ahead to the ministry that lies before them.

As the Diocese celebrates this appointment, we ask for your prayers for Rev. Catherine and her family as they prepare for this transition, and for the people of St. John’s, St. Mary’s, and Holy Trinity as they welcome their new priest this September.

May God richly bless this new partnership in ministry as together they continue to proclaim the Gospel and serve their communities with faith, hope, and love.
