A Message from the Co-Chairs of the Anne Germond Legacy Fund

“It is not the things which I do not understand in the Bible which trouble me, but the things which I do understand.” — Mark Twain

One of those clear biblical teachings is Jesus’ instruction to “go and do likewise” following the parable of the Good Samaritan. That story reminds us we are called to a love that crosses boundaries and reaches outward—especially to those on the margins.

The late Pope Francis has said, “The true order of love… is that which we discover by meditating constantly on the parable of the Good Samaritan—a love that builds a fraternity open to all, without exception.”

It is in that spirit that we are proud to serve as Co-Chairs of the Anne Germond Legacy Fund.

We want to share our hope that the Church in the Diocese of Algoma can continue to support the needs of the poor, the ill, the lonely, and all who are less fortunate—beyond our lifetimes and yours. To do that, we need lasting, visionary leadership: a bishop rooted in the life of the diocese, supported by a well-resourced office, and equipped to carry the Church’s mission into the future with courage and compassion.

Building that future will require time, talent, sacrifice, and generosity. But we believe the investment is worth it—and we hope you will too.

Together, we can strengthen Algoma’s witness now and for generations to come.

The Anne Germond Legacy Fund is a bold investment in Algoma’s future. It will ensure our diocese is always led by a local Bishop with the time and resources to support parishes, visit deaneries, and nurture the ties that bind us. By strengthening the Bishop’s office, this fund will help guide our Church through change, encourage innovation, and reduce long-term reliance on apportionment.

To learn more, make a gift, or explore how your parish or deanery can host an event in support of the fund, visit www.anneslegacyfund.ca or contact communications@dioceseofalgoma.com.
