Archbishop Anne announces new appointments and upcoming ordination
Archbishop Anne Germond announces two new appointments and an upcoming ordination:
Christ Church, Windermere – The Rev. Judie Cooper as part-time Incumbent effective August 1, 2023. Rev. Judie is an Algoma retired cleric who is well-known across the Diocese as she has provided ministry with the Parish of Muskoka Lakes, St. Luke’s (Thunder Bay) and interim ministries with St. Thomas (Bracebridge) and Lake of Bays. Judie is, also, known in the Diocese of Moosonee as she provided ministry at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Timmins for a three-month period. We welcome Rev. Judie to this new ministry and uphold her and Christ Church in prayer as they begin this partnership together.
St. Michael and All Angels, Thunder Bay – The Rev. Elizabeth Sipos as full-time Incumbent effective September 1, 2023. Rev. Elizabeth most recently served in the Episcopal Church (Kingsville, Maryland) but she is no stranger to Algoma. Raised in Sudbury, she served as a Lay Reader at the Church of the Epiphany, Chaplain for Thorneloe students in residence, and as the Lay Pastoral Associate at St. John the Divine (Copper Cliff) and Christ Church (Lively) prior to her ordination in the Diocese of Moosonee. She served in parishes on the east coast of James Bay from 2011 to 2013. We welcome Elizabeth back to Algoma and uphold her and the people of St. Michael and All Angels in prayer as they begin new ministry together.
God-willing, Ms. Catherine Hazlitt will be ordained to the sacred order of deacons on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s, Manitowaning. The Ven. Glen Miller will be leading her pre-ordination retreat at Villa Loyola. The ordination preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Ronald Kydd, her spiritual mentor and Professor Emeritus of Christian History at Tyndale Seminary. The liturgical colour will be red. A reception will follow the service at Knox United Church, 25 Napier Street, Manitowaning. Catherine currently serves as the Lay Incumbent for the Manitoulin Island Parishes. Your prayers are requested for Catherine, her children, and the parish as they prepare for this ordination celebration.
