Giving Thanks for the Life of Thomasena “Ena” Boyles Conliffe
The Diocese of Algoma joins family, friends, and parish communities in giving thanks for the life of Thomasena “Ena” Boyles Conliffe, who died peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 88.
Ena was a woman of deep faith whose life was marked by devoted service to her family, parish, and diocese. Across many decades, she shared her gifts generously and faithfully, becoming a familiar and respected figure throughout the Diocese of Algoma.
Born in Guelph, Ontario, on February 27, 1938, Ena was the daughter of Mary and Frederick Boyles. She married Mark Conliffe in 1959, beginning a partnership in life and ministry that would span more than sixty years. Together they served in communities across Canada before settling in Thunder Bay, where Mark served as Rector of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church from 1968 until his retirement in 2001.
Throughout those years, Ena became deeply involved in parish life. She was active in the Girls’ Auxiliary, sang in the choir, and offered leadership in countless aspects of congregational ministry. Her commitment extended well beyond her home parish. Many across Algoma will remember her dedicated service to the Anglican Church Women, including her leadership as Diocesan ACW President, a role in which she faithfully supported and encouraged women throughout the diocese.
Ena was known for her energy, determination, hospitality, and unwavering commitment to the Church. She built lasting friendships, nurtured future generations of Anglicans, and offered faithful witness through both her leadership and her daily acts of service.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Archdeacon Mark Conliffe, and is lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
The Diocese of Algoma gives thanks for Ena’s years of faithful ministry and for the countless ways she contributed to the life of the Church. Her legacy lives on in the communities she helped build and in the many people she encouraged through her example of Christian service.
