He was Rural Dean of Thunder Bay from 1965-1967, and was a former Clerical Secretary of Diocesan Synod. Following his retirement in 1984, the Turners moved back to Thunder Bay, where Fr. Turner was Honourary Assistant at St. Thomas’ Church, and most recently at St. John’s Church.
For 17 years, Fr. Turner was the Chaplain to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps "Vindictive" in Thunder Bay, and he was the Legion Padre for Port Arthur Branch #5. 1. The Ven. Hugh Hamilton has been appointed as Acting Incumbent of St. Matthew’s Church, Sault Ste. Marie. This is a half-time appointment while the parish undertakes a concurrence process seeking a new permanent incumbent.
2. Negotiations have been completed with the Arthur A. Wishart Library, Algoma University, for the housing of our Diocesan Archives Collection at the Sault Ste. Marie site. This will involve the transfer of Diocesan, Deanery, and Parochial Records that have been held on deposit at the Archives of Laurentian University, Sudbury, since 1996. It will also mean the temporary closing of access to our Archival Records while the transfer and re-housing of the collection takes place. Our Diocesan Archivist, Mr. Fred Neal, at the March Executive Committee meeting, emphasized the importance of Diocesan Officers as well as researchers having opportunities for regular and convenient access to these historical records. The new facility in Sault Ste. Marie is expected to be in operation by the time of Synod, 2009.

All parishes with a valid Charity Taxation Registration Number must file this return. Failure to remit will result in the Charity number being REVOKED. You can contact Revenue Canada Charities Division at 1-800-267-2384 for the form or access this form in a PDF version online at www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/t3010a/t3010a-o5e.pdf .

News Flash for Algoma
Our Vision
We are joyful
The new Diocesan Strategic Plan 2009-2014, Live the Vision and Proclaim the Joy, was approved by the Executive Committee at their March meeting. The Strategic Plan is a 5 year plan that identifies where Algoma wants to be, and how it is going to get there. The results oriented Plan includes 7 Strategic Objectives, and 32 specific strategies.
The entire Strategic Plan will soon be available on the Diocesan website (www.dioceseofalgoma.com).
In accordance with one of the recommendations in the Strategic Plan, a Management Consulting firm has been hired to make recommendations to the Bishop-Elect and the Executive Committee relating to the optimal organizational structure to achieve the seven strategic objectives of the plan. Following a request for proposals from several consulting firms and a careful evaluation process, Wellington Partners has been selected. Mr. Dan Brooks of Wellington will be the project manager, and he will present the final report at the June 2009 Executive Committee meeting.
A Strategic Plan Implementation Committee will be appointed by the Bishop-Elect and the Executive Committee. The terms of reference are being developed for this committee, which will ensure the timely implementation of the objectives, and follow-up evaluation.
The status of the Strategic Plan will be presented at Synod 2009, and at each subsequent Synod.
May the grace of God bless us all as we journey together to grow and build Algoma.
