"Living Through Giving: The Daisy Initiative"

A Plan for Stewardship Education in the Diocese of Algoma

Background

This initiative came out of the Diocesan Executive Committee. The goal was not to raise money for the diocese, but to provide resources and opportunities for parishes to work on their own stewardship education. Although financial stewardship is a major concern in many of our parishes, the initiative approaches stewardship holistically: Time, Talent, and Treasure.

The stewardship working group consists of The Ven. Tom Corston, The Rev. Rosalie Goos, The Rev. Richard White, The Rev. Bob Elkin, and Kelly Cooper. Many other individuals have also contributed to this on-going project, including the Rev. Deborah Kraft and Mrs. Debby deBakker who created our logo, Bishop George Lemmon who wrote Bible study materials, and Ms. Mel Malton who has provided artwork to accompany these studies.

What’s Happening?

  • Look for monthly stewardship articles in the Algoma Anglican. The first was written in September 2002, and they will continue until Synod 2003.
  • Bible study material for Advent will be mailed to all parishes at the beginning of November. This is a four-week series with the stewardship theme: "All That I Have and All That I am." All parishes are encouraged to take part in this study during Advent.
  • Mr. Jeff Pym of the Planned Giving office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada has been invited to speak on stewardship and lead a workshop at Synod 2003.
  • In the fall of 2003, a stewardship event will take place in each of our deaneries. This will likely be a Friday evening and Saturday, and all parishes are encouraged to take part. Details are still in the works and updates will be made available.
