Clerical announcements

Posted: May 1, 2011

Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin announced Sunday that he had accepted a position as the Rector of St George’s Church, Prince Albert; St Stephen's Church, Macdowall; and Emmanuel Church, St Louis, in the Diocese of Saskatchewan, effective 1 July.  Andrew and Mary Lou came to Algoma with their four children in 1998 from Alberta, where he had served in the dioceses of Athabasca and Calgary.  A desire to return to the Prairies where they could be closer to some of their children has been a factor in their decision to move.  Andrew took up a position as the Incumbent of St Thomas’ Church in Thunder Bay nearly 13 years ago.  In 2001, he was appointed Archdeacon of Thunder Bay.  Andrew has a B.A. from the University of Alberta and an L.Th. from Wycliffe College.  In 1977 he was made Deacon, and then ordained Priest in the following year.  We are grateful for his many years of leadership in the diocese and shall miss his gentle faithfulness.  We wish him and Mary Lou God’s richest blessing as they take on this new challenge.  Bishop Hawkins intends to collate Andrew as the Archdeacon of Prince Albert.

The Rev’d Peter Smyth has tendered his resignation as the Incumbent of St Michael and All Angel’s Church, Thunder Bay, in order to take up the Incumbency of Holy Trinity Church in Sault Ste Marie, effective 1 July.  Peter and Liz came to the Diocese of Algoma in 2002 in order to assume the position at St Michael’s.  Prior to that he had been serving in the Diocese of Dublin and Glendalough.  Peter has a B.A. (Hons) in Religious Studies from the University of Wales and a B.A. in Theology from Trinity College Dublin.  He was made Deacon in 1998 and Priest in 1999.  Peter has been active in working with the Thunder Bay Deanery Youth and Camp Gitchigomee.  He and Liz have two young boys, both born in Canada.
