Bishop announces Thunder Bay retirement

Posted: Nov 3, 2013

Bishop Stephen Andrews regretfully announces that he has accepted the resignation of the Venerable Mark Conliffe as the Priest at St. George’s, Thunder Bay on December 31, 2013.

Archdeacon Mark was priested in 1961 and served in the Parish of West Thunder Bay and St. Michael and All Angels, Thunder Bay, respectively, as incumbent until his retirement in 2001.  He was Rural Dean and Archdeacon of Thunder Bay.  He has been offering interim ministry across the Diocese since 2001 in various parishes:  St. Luke’s and St. Paul’s, Thunder Bay; St. Matthew’s, Sault Ste. Marie; and, since 2005, at St. George’s, Thunder Bay.  He represented the Diocese for several years on the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund and has been instrumental in providing services for refugees.

In October 2002, Thorneloe University conferred upon Mark the Doctorate of Sacred Theology (honoris causa) for recognition of his many years of service and leadership in the Diocese and within his community.

We offer our best wishes to Archdeacon Mark and his wife, Ena, as they prepare to enter the second stage of retirement!

The Reverend Gordon Holroyd has graciously agreed to offer interim ministry at St. George’s, Thunder Bay beginning in the New Year.
