Marjorie Locke (Wyatt) 1920-2012
Passed away peacefully at Marian Villa, London, on July 29th 2012
in her 92nd year. Beloved wife and support of the late Reverend Charles Locke in his varied career. Survived by sister Joan (Barnes) of Haliburton. Mother of Bruce (Sylvia Osborn) of London, Ontario and Alison McManus (Paul) of Salt Spring Island. Predeceased by sons Ian and Roger. Grandmother of Dylan, Andrew, Roderick, Elizabeth, and Adam. Great grandmother of Simone.
She accepted her life as it occurred.
Born in a small village in Cornwall, England, her family moved to Kirkland Lake, Ontario where she met and married Charles. They moved to Westwood, Hamilton and then Virginiatown where Charles and his brother Lachlan operated a hardware store until Charlie's ordination in the Anglican Church. His first posting was to FortGeorge (Chisasibi) on James Bay. While there Marjorie taught herself to play the organ to provide accompaniment for the services, became the radio-telephone operator for northern Quebec, and did substitute teaching. Subsequent postings were to Matheson and Kirkland Lake before a volunteer year in Belize. Along the way, she developed her talent for oil painting; her paintings represent calm and quiet moments in a busy life. Retirement to Novar, Ont. involved extensive gardening and active involvement in the Anglican Parish of the Good Shepherd in Emsdale, Ontario, where she was one of the organists, one of the wardens, was involved in the choir, the altar guild, bible studies, the ACW, and actively promoted the Primate’s World Relief Development Fund. She and Charlie cut and sold firewood and made maple syrup to raise money for the Primate's World Relief. They entertained at seniors' homes with Marjorie on the guitar and Charles playing the mouth organ and musical saw (once heard, never forgotten).
The family would like to express appreciation to the 5th floor staff of Marian Villa for their wonderful care and kindness.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at the Anglican Parish of the Good Shepherd in Emsdale.
We offer our condolences to the Locke family and ask that you uphold them in prayer as they prepare to celebrate Marjorie's life.
