Bishop Stephen Andrews is pleased to announce that The Rev. Michelle Ferguson has been appointed Part-time Incumbent of the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Sturgeon Falls, effective 1 July 2012. A Franco-Ontarian, Michelle took her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa before relocating to the UK in the early 1980s. There she did her theological training at St John’s College, Cranmer Hall, at Durham University. She was ordained to the diaconate in 1995 and the priesthood in 1996.
She has served as Assistant Curate at St Clare’s Church in the Great Aycliffe Team Ministry, County Durham (1995-1996); Assistant Chaplain at HM Holme House Prison, Stockton (1996-1999); Non-stipendiary assistant curate at St Michael’s Church, Heighington, County Durham (1999-2004); Part-time non-stipendiary chaplain to Aycliffe Young People’s Centre (2003-2004); Rector to the parishes of All Saints, Hurworth, in plurality with St John the Baptist, Dinsdale, and All Saints, Girsby (2004-2009); and Non-stipendiary locum cover in Darlington deanery and, with permission of the Bishop of Carlisle, in the Team ministry of Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria (2009 to the present).
Michelle has been described as ‘a prayerful person’, ‘an excellent preacher’, and ‘a people person’. We look forward to sharing her gifts in the Diocese of Algoma. She and her husband, Gordon, a physician, have four children.
At the same time, we express our deep gratitude to the Rev. John Stennett and the Rev. Grahame Stap who have been serving faithfully for the past two years as the Interim Priest-in-Charge and the Associate Priest at St Mary Magdalene’s.
