Good afternoon everyone – (please pass this around your e-news groups and to your prayer chains),
As you will have heard from the news, yesterday was a tragic day in Northern Ontario as there were two car accidents with fatalities. One was on HWY 17 and the other on HWY 69. Six people died in those accidents. Sadly, I have just heard from Dr Bob Derrenbacker, President of Thorneloe University, that four of those who died were from Laurentian University – three on HWY 17 and one on HWY 69. At this time the names of all the deceased have not been released, but one of the students was a resident at Thorneloe University. Her name was Hillary Afelskie. She was 19.
Would you please pray for those whose lives have ended so tragically, for their families, and loved ones? May they rest in peace and rise in glory and may their families know the consolation of God’s love at this time of sorrow. Please pray for the injured and for those who will be ministering to those who are bereaved – Assistant Chaplain Rachel Perry, grief counsellors at LU, staff, and students. Please pray for Rachel and Hillary's fellow students as they travel to Renfrew for her funeral.
“Lord Christ, you spoke words of comfort to Martha and Mary in their hour of sorrow. Give consolation and courage to those who mourn today, and may they find their peace and hope in you, the Resurrection and the Life, for your tender mercies sake. Amen” (South African Prayer Book)
In Christ, the source of all comfort,
