1. We regret to announce the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. Winslow S. Case yesterday afternoon in Sudbury. Dr. Case celebrated his 56th anniversary as a parochial and diocesan lay reader in May, 2003, having served in the Province of the West Indies, the Diocese of London (England), the Diocese of Toronto, and for the past 34 years, the Diocese of Algoma. Dr. Case was the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the 1939-45 Star, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Atlantic Star, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, the Governor General’s Gold Medal, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration and Bar, and the Canada 125th Anniversary Medal. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 1974, and in 1995 was honoured as a Global Citizen of the United Nations, in recognition of the work he had been doing to facilitate humanitarian aid to victims of natural disasters in various parts of the world. In addition to his deep commitment to his Church, Dr. Case volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, and for 12 years was a trustee with the Sudbury Board of Education. A retired Lieutenant-Colonel of the Canadian Forces, and a former Member of the Science Council of Canada, Dr. Case retired in 1991 from Cambrian College, Sudbury, where he was a Professor of Mathematics and Science.

Our prayers and condolences go out to his wife, Jeanne, children Antoinette, Arlene, and David, and their families.

2. The Right Reverend Victoria Matthews has accepted Bishop Ferris’ invitation to visit the Diocese for three events later this year. She will be the guest preacher at the ordination of priests on June 16. Bishop Matthews will also be the Theme Speaker for the Clergy Day on June 16, and the Theme Speaker for the Early Ministry Conference planned for June 17 and 18. We look forward to welcoming her to the Diocese of Algoma.
